Insurance

Thank you for considering Douglas Women's Center for your healthcare needs. Below you will find more information on our payment policies. Should you have any questions, please contact our business office at 770-941-8662 and we'll be glad to assist you.

ATTENTION PATIENTS

In an effort to assist you through the complex world of insurance, we have posted the following announcements. We encourage you to read through them before scheduling an appointment.

  1. Effective 06/11/2013:
    • We are no longer accepting new Medicaid patients.
  2. Effective 01/01/2014:
    • We are participating providers in the Piedmont Wellstar Health Plan. Wellstar employees may see us at the Tier 1 level. Piedmont employees may see us at the Tier 2 level.
    • We are accepting members of the BCBS State Health Benefit Open Access Plan.
    • We are not participating in the following insurance programs developed as a result of the Healthcare Reform Act, which are sold through the Marketplace, Healthcare Exchange, and/or Healthcare.gov: 1) Humana Atlanta HMOx, 2) Blue Cross Blue Shield of GA HMO Pathway Exchange, 3) Kaiser Permanente HMO, 4) Ambetter HMO, 5) Alliant PPO.
    • We are participating providers in the Humana National POS plan.
    • We are participating providers for most Aetna Health Plans; however, we are considered out-of-network for the designated Aetna Aexcel plans. You may see our physicians if you have the Aetna Aexcel; however, you could experience higher out-of-pocket expenses. Please consult with your insurance carrier directly for questions relative to your expenses.
  3. Effective 08/31/2014:
    • We are no longer participating providers in the UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage benefit contract types other than Group PPO Medicare Advantage benefit contract types. Those that we cannot accept are: 1) Medicare Advantage Benefit Contracts; 2) Medicare Advantage Private Fee-For-Service Benefit Contracts and Medicare Advantage Medical Savings Account Benefit Contracts; 3) Benefit Contracts for Medicare Select.
  4. Effective 11/01/2014:
    • We will not be participating providers in the following United Healthcare products to be introduced in late 2014: UnitedHealthcare Compass Benefit Contract, also known as Individual Exchange Benefit Contracts. These products will be marketed under the following names: UnitedHealthcare Compass, UnitedHealthcare Compass Balance, United Healthcare Compass Plus, and another name may develop in the future that also includes the word "Compass". Please note, we will continue to accept all other United Healthcare Plans that we are currently participating in, with exception to the United Healthcare Medicare Advantage products mentioned above.
  5. Effective 01/01/2015:
    • Our providers have earned the "designated physician" status in the Cigna Care program. Selecting physicians in the Cigna Care program could potentially reduce your out-of-pocket expenses. Please refer to your plan for further information. Please note: until 01/01/2015, we will be considered out-of-network for the Cigna Care program.
    • We will not be participating in the Cigna Local Plus products.

Patients with Insurance

If your plan requires you to pay a co-pay, the co-pay will be collected when you check in with our front desk. Always call your insurance company if you have questions about your plan’s requirements. Insurance is filed by our office for covered services only. In order for us to file your insurance, we must have a copy of your CURRENT insurance card.

Patients Who Are Self-Pay (Those Who Do Not Have Insurance): Payment is expected at the time of service.

For your convenience, we accept cash, check, debit, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express, as well as most insurance plans.

Please note, we do our best to participate in as many of the insurance plans available as is possible. However, because insurance companies often have multiple products and plans, please be aware that we may not be in-network providers for every option offered. We urge you to contact the number provided on your insurance card to verify that we are in network for your particular plan, even if you see your company in the list below.

Also keep in mind that insurance company websites are not always accurate when listing participating providers online. Our providers may be approved, however, an oversight may occur and our names may not appear in their online directory. We have found this to be true on several occasions.

Once again, the safest approach is to call the insurance company directly. Denied claims and unpaid balances are ultimately the patient's responsibility.
